Trying Again

Look no tape! This is the first time we've been able to see his beautiful little face without anything attached! Needless to say it has been a roller coaster of emotions for us here, but we couldn't ask for a better group of doctors, therapists and nurses to be tending to Chase on a round-the-clock basis. The respiratory therapist thought he'd be ready to try the CPAP(continuous positive airway pressure) again since Chase seemed to be doing well with only 20% room air on the ventilator. Although he doesn't look thrilled in the pics he's obviously much more comfortable without the tubes down his little throat! Yesterday we tried the CPAP for a little bit but he was working way too hard and ended up getting little bruises on his chest, so we took another step back to give him a little more time to adjust. The staff are extremely helpful and don't mind being bombarded with questions. Although we know they won't have any definitive answers, just the reassurance at times is wonderful. Hopefully he'll be able to have a quiet evening with only Mommy and Daddy as visitors. It's been a pretty busy first few days for him and we're hoping he can get a little rest.
